Protecting Our Planet With LED And CFL Lamps

Earlier today a received a phone call from one of the representatives of Greenpeace-an independent global campaigning organization which promotes environmental awareness and protects our environment-acknowledging me as one of their supporters and asking for financial aide. I did not promise them anything as that would require my full commitment. But as advocate for a clean and green environment, I can help by promoting environmental awareness through the different social media. I can also help by planting trees in my community and by conserving energy at home as well.

In fact we have been using LED (light emitting diode) lamps and CFL (compact florescent) lamps since incandescent light bulbs have been banned by the government as it consumes a lot of electricity to produce light. We use these LED lamps and CFL lamps not only at home but also in our little grocery store. Initially, we were using a 200-watt incandescent lamps in our 12” by 12.5 " vented top warehouse shade wall sconces in the grocery store. But after the decrease in our electric bills at home, we change all the wall sconces to LED lamps. I am also pleased that the online shop where we bought the warehouse shade wall sconces allows us to customize the kind of lamp that we want. So when we ordered additional warehouse lights in the grocery store, we requested for a 57 watt Fresh Green colored lamp. The price of these LED lamps and CFL lamps are much higher compared to the incandescent lamps. But since we started using these energy saving lamps, we have save a lot in our electric bills.

In addition, I have also been looking into using solar panels to operate our home. I have heard a lot of good feedback from my relatives who have been using solar panels to run their home and farm. According to them the best things about using this recyclable energy is that they are not only protecting and conserving the environment, but they are also free from paying their monthly electric bills. That is absolutely a lot of savings. Using solar panels to run our house is quite ideal since we enjoy a lot of sun but as of yet getting the solar panels for my home has to wait.

Bright And Colorful Christmas Everywhere

December is known to be the most celebrated month of all months. Or maybe it is because it is the same month on which we commemorate the birth of our dear Savior. You can also say it is the happiest and the brightest month as well. Anywhere you go, you can see tall buildings decorated with different colored lights. Commercial post lights which brighten up the streets are even brighter because of the decorative colored led lights which are wrapped around it. Even the double -12 inched classic shallow radial shade pole lights which line up the streets in our neighborhood were not spared from the Christmas decorations which bring the Christmas cheer to everyone.

I wish our street will look as colorful as it is now the whole year round because everyone seems to be happy and contented with this new change in our neighborhood. We have been looking forward to this most celebrated month since the officials of our hometown decided to decorate the entire town with different Christmas decors. I am sure the environmentalists are worried of the increasing energy consumption because of the added decorative lighting. But since LED or light emission display is used I guess there is nothing to worry about. In addition, the light sources of the pole lights according to a friend who works with the town architect also use low energy consumption called CFL or compact florescent lamp. I guess everybody has decided to be environmental friendly.

I cannot imagine the season of Christmas to be dull and dark. I understand that it is kind of hard to be happy after all the bad news going on around here and across the globe. But there is always a reason to be happy. With all the beautifully decorated lighting fixtures, buildings and parks, I hope that these will somehow brighten someone else' Christmas.

Lighting Manufacturers Against Global Warming

The world today is facing one calamity after another. Just a week ago Typhoon Haiyan or Yolanda struck the Philippines and left thousands of Filipinos devastated. Just yesterday, a tornado hit US Midwest killing six people; two days before that there was a flash flood in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia which killed at least three people. Why are these happening? What is the government doing to stop these from happening again? What are we doing to stop it?

Government, non-government, private sectors, business sectors and several environmentalists are working hand in hand in saving what is left of our planet.  The Earth Hour and Earth Day are just among the famous campaigns which address the issues of global warming. Several companies such as shopping malls are also doing their part by promoting the use of cloth bags whenever they shop. Some manufacturers especially the  manufacturers of our lighting fixtures which we use all the time are also doing their part in saving this planet by using earthenware clay. They also promote the use of LED (Light emitting diode) or CFL (Compact Fluorescent lamp) light bulbs for their lighting fixtures such as gooseneck lighting which are often use in commercial establishments. These types of light bulbs are popular energy savers. What we can do as individuals is to follow the three R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).

Global warming is a world issue that we all need to work on not only for our own sake but for our children and our children’s children. It is not something that we can just ignore considering that these will affect us all. It does not matter if you are from the first world country or the third world country when it comes to an act of nature because not one of us can dodge a typhoon, tornado, drought, flood or an earthquake. It sounds scary and a lot may think of that we are probably close to the end of the world. But unless we do our part in taking care of our planet then there is a great chance that we will be witnessing our destruction.
