Lighting fixtures are one of man’s greatest achievements as inventors. They are invented for a lot of reasons. One of these reasons is that we could move around at night safely. It is kind of hard to be traveling at night when it is dark. A lot of bad things can happen in the dark. Moreover, the fear of not know what we are up against is something that every human being’s weakness. The invention of light is one way of fighting this weakness.

However, the invention of light especially the gooseneck lights paved the way to a lot of things that have changed our lives forever. It had changed our way of living. It had opened a lot of business opportunities for everyone. Business owners took courage in opening their shops or stores for everyone even at night. It also made working at night possible and less dangerous. I can vaguely remember when it had exactly made our nights livelier and fun.  But I perfectly remember how my grandparents disapproved of their granddaughter going out at night to work. It was kind of irritating and yet endearing to that they would walk with me, hand in hand, to the bus station. My grandfather would even insist that I should bring a knife with me for protection which I did out of fear and respect for him. But I had to hide the knife which I wrapped in paper deep inside my bag to avoid detection. 

Assuring my grandparents that it is okay to travel, work and even party at night was hard. I have to constantly call them afterwards to assure them that I arrived safely. They still disapproved but eventually they learned to accept that times have changed.  We have to take them out to dinner whenever it is possible to let them know that everything has changed. Seeing all those bright commercial lights adorning in every building infrastructures, commercial establishments and the streets; plus the number of lively people on the street and the guards,  may have convinced them somehow.

Lighting Manufacturers Against Global Warming

The world today is facing one calamity after another. Just a week ago Typhoon Haiyan or Yolanda struck the Philippines and left thousands of Filipinos devastated. Just yesterday, a tornado hit US Midwest killing six people; two days before that there was a flash flood in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia which killed at least three people. Why are these happening? What is the government doing to stop these from happening again? What are we doing to stop it?

Government, non-government, private sectors, business sectors and several environmentalists are working hand in hand in saving what is left of our planet.  The Earth Hour and Earth Day are just among the famous campaigns which address the issues of global warming. Several companies such as shopping malls are also doing their part by promoting the use of cloth bags whenever they shop. Some manufacturers especially the  manufacturers of our lighting fixtures which we use all the time are also doing their part in saving this planet by using earthenware clay. They also promote the use of LED (Light emitting diode) or CFL (Compact Fluorescent lamp) light bulbs for their lighting fixtures such as gooseneck lighting which are often use in commercial establishments. These types of light bulbs are popular energy savers.What we can do as individuals is to follow the three R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).

Global warming is a world issue that we all need to work on not only for our own sake but for our children and our children’s children. It is not something that we can just ignore considering that these will affect us all. It does not matter if you are from the first world country or the third world country when it comes to an act of nature because not one of us can dodge a typhoon, tornado, drought, flood or an earthquake. It sounds scary and a lot may think of that we are probably close to the end of the world. But unless we do our part in taking care of our planet then there is a great chance that we will be witnessing our destruction.

In this day and age, almost everyone I know who owns a business uses different types of gooseneck lighting or any commercial lighting reflector to keep their signage or billboards illuminated all night long. It is one way of letting the public know that the particular store, mall or commercial establishment is still very much in business. However, one should not just use any ordinary commercial lighting. It should also be artistically made to attract more customers to visit your store. It should also offer the best price for its product and their customer service should be commendable. But first and foremost, the store, shopping mall or any commercial establishment must have a great marketing strategy such as advertising with the use of social media, television, radio, newspapers and magazines, billboards and the likes to catch the attention of prospective buyers. These commercial establishments must also be attractive to the eye of the prospective buyers like me. In this regard, lighting fixtures such as the gooseneck light shade, emblem shades, warehouse lights and the likes play a major role in drawing the prospective buyers or would be customers to the store. The brighter, fancier and more colorful the lights are, the more attracted we become.

It is quite a challenge to the lighting designers of every lighting manufacturers to come up with a not-so-ordinary lighting fixtures that will keep customers like us fascinated. It is quite amazing that how commercial lighting fixtures can have that “hypnotic effect” that will draw us towards the store.

All types of lighting fixtures has been designed and manufactured over the years to aid us in our day to day life. Just like other products such as our clothes, shoes, and gadgets, they are assessed depending on their sizes, designs, materials used, and their necessity. We also buy them depending on our needs and budget. But there are also times that we buy a lighting fixture regardless if it is expensive or not because we just simply need them. 

However, we need to be wise in buying these kinds of products. We need to check first how long these lighting fixtures are going to last? We also need to check the brightness or the lumen of these lighting fixtures as well as the wattage because these factors will surely affect our budget. We should also think how these lighting fixtures affect our environment. It is known that these past few years, we have been suffering from global warming. So our government has highly recommended that we should use energy saving lamps such as LED (Light-emitting diode) and CFL (Compact fluorescent lamp) instead of incandescent lamps and some fluorescent lamps which were banned because they were proven because they were proven to be hazardous to our health and our environment.

Companies and manufacturers who have a high regard for our environment are greatly admired. We should also buy from these companies and manufacturers especially those who are promoting energy saving lighting fixtures such commercial sign lights, garden lights, barn lights and home lights in order to help our environment as well. Moreover, we should also be careful in disposing lighting fixtures which no longer works to prevent accidents and problems to our health and nature. We must bear in mind that whatever happens to our environment will greatly affect as all.
